The annual Great Maine Apple Day, sponsored by Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association (MOFGA), Fedco and University of Maine Cooperative Extension, takes place this Sunday, October 15, from noon to 4 p.m., rain or shine, at MOFGA’s Common Ground Education Center in Unity. Admission is $2 for MOFGA members, $4 for non-members; kids get in free.

Featured presentations include:

12:10 to 1 p.m. — Fruit Exploring in Maine: Laura Sieger and Abbey Verrier

1:05 to 2 p.m. — Organic Pest Management for the Home Orchard: Glen Kohler

2:10 to 3 p.m. — Beyond Apples, Many Woody Plants to Grow on the Farm: Aaron Parker and Jesse Stevens

3:05 to 4 p.m. — Cider Making Basics and Fine Points: Angus Deighan and Justin Glover

A dream team of Maine apple identifiers will be on hand to help those who bring along a mystery apple. Visitors will also be able to see and taste rare and heirloom apples; bring your own varieties for others to see and taste.

Great Maine Apple Day will offer apples, apple cider vinegar and apple cider for sale, along with apple pizza, apple hand pies, soups, sweets, other food and handcrafted products.
